A concert of folk polyphonic music from northern to southern Italy by Curmaia, produced by Terracanto.

The group performs traditional Italian songs, accompanied by an explanation of their original cultural contexts and insights into the symbolism of peasant life. Curmaia, a Terracanto production, presents a concert of peasant polyphonic music from northern to southern Italy. The performance evokes the history of the “mondine” and the “monda,” a grueling agricultural labor. The group performs traditional Italian songs that recount struggles and the changing seasons, including the repertoires of the mondine, the discanti of the reapers, the laments of migrants, as well as sacred and secular rituals. Three voices intertwine to offer a selection of songs from different Italian regions, enriched by an explanation of their original cultural contexts. An introductory workshop on Italian folk singing will also be held on Saturday, April 3.
