Description

The Moulin du Bonheur is opening its doors free of charge for European Heritage Days, which are dedicated to photographic heritage and heritage sites at risk.
On September 19 and 20, free guided tours will be offered every 20 minutes from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and then from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., allowing visitors to explore the interior of the mill and learn about how a windmill works. The Moulin du Bonheur was restored to life in 2007 thanks to an initiative by the “Sauvegarde du Patrimoine de Porquerolles” Association and the Port-Cros National Park, which owns the site. Built on the island of Porquerolles, the sails of the Moulin du Bonheur had not turned for over two hundred years, and all that remained was the tower, in ruins and lost amid the scrubland. Rebuilt exactly as it was in the tradition of Provençal windmills, it stands 6 meters tall and is 6 meters in diameter. Its walls are 1 meter thick at the base. The entrance door faces the direction from which no wind blows. The staircase winds counterclockwise.
