Description
Alongside paintings, drawings and prints, visitors will be able to discover and explore the wealth of written material that their works have inspired over more than six decades.
Voices are raised in response to the works. Critics, writers and exhibition curators put the aesthetic experience into words. In the case of Bergman and Hartung, this verbal output was abundant and varied. It is by turns dense, harsh, humorous, deferential, and at times effusive. These formulations, often erudite and at times caustic, each seek to capture tensions, rhythms and flows; they contribute to the cultural and historical construction of the images.
Drawing on the archives amassed by the couple, the Foundation has sought to give voice to this polyphony.
