Festival L'Image Satellite 2026

The Image Satellite festival is conceived as an observatory of the still image, attuned to the emerging trends that shape contemporary photography. From documentary approaches to the practices of visual artists, from vernacular uses of photography to experiments with the printed, exhibited, published, displayed, projected, and animated image: the Image Satellite festival showcases the enduring elements, the bursts of energy, and the flashes of brilliance that define today’s photographic creation. Drifting Further For this edition, l’Image Satellite continues its exploration of contemporary forms of photography by offering a reflection on territories as spaces of struggle. More than mere geographical landmarks—and in contrast to the idealized, static landscapes of Epinal—territories are conceived as shifting constructs, always in the making. Shaped by practices that are by turns ritualized or akin to poaching, inherited from authorized or informal movements, and traversed by past, present, and future conflicts, these perpetual creations sediment and perform power relations, collective memories, and collective imaginaries. From 109—a hub for contemporary culture—to the gallery of the Charles Nègre Museum of Photography in Nice, the festival presents a map of photographic approaches that examine the ways in which places are constructed and transformed. The participating artists explore not only the tangible, visible elements but also the more intangible connections and fractures that run through our contemporary spaces: borders, infrastructure, displacement, legacies, and resistance. Through documentary, experimental, or speculative approaches, the image becomes a tool for tracing these underlying forces and revealing the tensions that shape the ways we inhabit the world.
