Description
In July 1854, the city of Nice was ravaged by a cholera epidemic. The inhabitants, especially the women of the Malonat district nicknamed the "prieuresses", placed themselves under the protection of the Virgin Mary.
In gratitude for this protection, Canon Barraja erected a statue of the Madonna in the Rue du Malonat, which can still be seen today at the Oratoire du Malonat. Every year, the statue is celebrated with prayers, a procession, mass and local entertainment.
