Film Talk: ‘Réunion and Mauritius’ with Altaïr Conférences

For the 2026–2027 season, Altaïr Conférences is offering film talks on the theme of travel and exploration at the Cinéma de la Baie des Isles. Screening of *Réunion and Mauritius, the Sister Islands*, a film by Charles Domingue. Synopsis: “We are 9,300 km from Paris. The sister islands rise up in the middle of the Indian Ocean like a promise. Barely visible on a map, you almost need a magnifying glass to spot them. Shaped by numerous volcanic eruptions that have sculpted their landscape, some mountains reach heights of 3,000 metres. On Réunion, the island’s star attraction is its ever-active volcano, the famous Piton de la Fournaise. It often lies dormant, sometimes rumbles, and when it awakens, it does so with great fanfare. Bearing witness to its geological past, the island is dotted with dizzying, breathtaking cirques. Its roads, twisted like crumpled paper, lead haphazardly to Chinese pagodas, Hindu temples or Creole houses that defy the passage of time. 180 km further east, just like its sister island Réunion, Mauritius is a shining example of peaceful coexistence.
