Film Talk: ‘The Alps’ with Altaïr Conférences

For the 2026–2027 season, Altaïr Conférences is organising film talks on the theme of travel and exploration at the Cinéma de la Baie des Isles. Screening of *Les Alpes, ambiance des cimes* (The Alps: The Atmosphere of the Peaks), a film by Marie-Thérèse and Serge Mathieu. Synopsis: “A legendary and incomparable place of heights, vast open spaces, wilderness, tradition and authenticity – vast yet at the same time intimate – the Alps, the roof of Europe, are a true source of inspiration. Whatever the season, encounters lasting a day or several weeks are always simple yet so enriching. The film’s central theme will be ‘the Route des Grandes Alpes’, but this will merely serve as a pretext; we’ll frequently veer off the route for wonderful encounters and discoveries. This route celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2011. Léon Auscher described it as “a route unique in Europe and the most beautiful mountain route in the world!”. Whether on foot, by bike or by car, it’s over 700 kilometres of pure joy and 16 major mountain passes that we’ll have to cross. Long and winding, high and beautiful, with a different face at every bend, it opens its doors to us and gives free rein to our imagination from its starting point in Thonon-les-Bains on the shores of Lake Geneva to Menton on the Mediterranean…” Free car park nearby.
