Born in 1983, Gaëtan Essayie grew up in the small village of Biot.
Gaëtan Essayie's trajectory naturally takes root in the studio of his father Denis Essayie, trained in the 60's with Viviana Torun. Faithful to his technical choices, the art of curve and link with a single silver wire is the real stake of his aesthetic, which must according to him remain above all functional.
Since 2008 and the opening of his workshop in Biot, Gaëtan continues to explore the setting volume of the silver wire and the attachment of the jewel that make it a strong and recognizable trademark. The clasps are intriguing, they fulfill their function in secret. Indeed, most models do not include welding.
From 2013 to 2017, he settles with his tools in Berlin in the collective workshop Volksluxus, in the heart of the cosmopolitan district of Kreuzberg. Inspired by artistic encounters and clean energy in Berlin, he experimented with collaborations and was interested in how a jewel can interact with body mechanics, divert, constrain. He creates a series of masks, defining a new facet of his work, intended for artistic performances. Between crafts and design, without the need to belong to any category, Gaëtan Essayie continues to explore the gesture and the matter.
In 2018, 10 years after his debut, he comes back to his workshop in Biot.
