Description
Buried 25 meters underground, the Cap-Martin Maginot Fort is a treasure of our cultural heritage, preserved and restored since 1997 by volunteers from the AMICORF association, with support from the municipality and the Alpes-Maritimes Department.
In June 1940, 354 crew members, including 11 officers, lived and fought there to halt the advance of Italian troops. Damaged by bombing, then looted and vandalized, the fort—covering a total of 2,400 m²—has been almost entirely restored by volunteers from Amicorf.
Get a glimpse of the fort in one hour, starting with an outdoor guided tour followed by a visit to the ground floor and the first basement level (covering about one-third of the fort). A striking immersion into the daily lives of the soldiers: a reconstruction of the guard room, radio room, and Combat Block No. 1, along with a period kitchen and original lighting, transport visitors back to the atmosphere of 1940.
