Description
Activities centred on the German fortifications, built in 1943–1944.
This guided walk highlights the German fortifications, built between 1943 and 1944, which were intended to thwart any attempt at a landing in the south of France by creating a defensive line similar to the Atlantic Wall.
This is a walking tour of approximately 500 metres. The aim of the tour is to explain the reasons behind this fortification project, the conditions under which it took place, and the composition of this fortified line, which remained unfinished on the eve of the D-Day landings in Provence. Emphasis will also be placed on the construction process of these concrete structures and on the camouflage techniques employed by the German engineers. Finally, an overview of the occupying forces and their armaments will be provided.
The tour will be led by an experienced professional guide, who will bring the tour to life with illustrations.
Booking is essential by telephone.
The tour is confirmed once 10 people have registered.
Registration closes on 10 November at 5.00 pm.
