Description
A hike that takes in the emblematic Terre Rouge lakes.
From the Chalet Marano parking lot, turn left (behind the trash bin) onto the Terre Rouge Lakes Trail (b.90a).
Follow this trail as it climbs up the resort’s south-facing slope to marker 91, where you turn right (east).
Soon after, cross the Terre Rouge valley (by fording) to rejoin, at marker 92, the military trail coming from the Mercière Pass.
Continue due north on this path, which leads to the glacial barrier (marker 93) and offers views of the small lakes (2,417 m, 2,425 m) and the large Terre Rouge Lake (2,452 m).
A sweeping bend and a few switchbacks lead to the Druos pass (2,628 m – marker 94), from where you can see the Italian rock cirque of Valescura and the summit shoulder of Malinvern (2,938 m).
Return via the same route.
By taking a slight detour, you can find a water source, dry toilets, and a snack bar for hikers.
