Description
A hike that lets you discover Isola 2000 in the most beautiful way.
From marker 90a, next to the Chalet Marano hotel, head toward the Terre Rouge lakes and take the trail that climbs above the Chalet; you’ll soon reach what is a ski trail in winter.
Turn right, continuing toward the Terre Rouge Lakes.
Cross a scree slope, then descend toward the Terre Rouge Valley, passing above a peat bog. As you approach the stream, a trail ascends from the right and joins the GR at marker 91.
Turn left to hike up the valley on the right bank. The slope then levels off, and you’ll need to cross the stream at a ford.
Then, turn right toward the Col Mercière at marker 92.
At the Col Mercière, do not follow the main trail that descends into the Vallon de Mollières; instead, take the small, unmarked trail on the left.
Descend and go around a rocky outcrop, then climb a short distance to reach the Tavels Lakes.
Return via the same route.
If you take a slight detour, you’ll find a water source, dry toilets, and a snack bar for hikers.
