Description
A 5-hour hike through the Italian lakes.
From the Col de la Lombarde, drive down to the Italian side.
after 1.5 km, the start is indicated by a red and white mark on a rock. Take the path up the mountainside to the left.
Pass the Col des Morts (Morti in Italian), then descend to the other, rockier side of the mountain, to skirt Mount Aver.
Cross it on a gentle slope, then descend several switchbacks. Skirt a rocky bar to emerge at the foot of lower Lake Aver.
Follow the trail to this lake. Climb the northeast side of the ridge to admire Lac Nero and Lac Martel below.
Then head north around one of the heads, down a couloir and over boulders to join the path leading up to upper Lac Avez.
To return, descend to the lower lake and follow the original route.
