This is an easy walk with splendid views that will make you feel like kings of the world! From the top of the centuries-old chestnut groves of the Berghe hamlets, you'll understand just how important self-sufficiency was for the farmers.

After parking on the RD42 at the hamlet of Berghe inférieur, follow the narrow road for a few hundred metres, then take a path down through the chestnut trees on your right. Cross the torrent on a beautiful old bridge (there are some nice launes if you need to cool off), and head up the other side to join the road, marker 211, which has made a longer loop around the valley. Follow the road to your right as far as Bergue supérieur, beacons 32 and 33: don't miss a visit to the old hilltop hamlet and its little church, Notre-Dame de la Merci, rebuilt after 1781. Then retrace your steps and climb the path to your right at marker 32: the path runs parallel above the road, which you'll find again a little further on at marker 225. Take the road back to lower Berghe, which you must also take the time to discover, with its little church, Notre-Dame du Rosaire, also dating from the second half of the 18th century.
