Hiking - Tavels Lakes

From marker 90a, next to the Chalet Marano hotel, head towards the Terre Rouge lakes and take the path that climbs above the Chalet and quickly joins what is a ski slope in winter. Turn right, still heading for the Terre Rouge lakes. Cross a scree slope and then descend towards the Vallon de Terre Rouge, overlooking a peat bog. Close to the stream, a path climbs up from the right and joins the GR at marker 91. Turn left up the Vallon on the right bank. The slope then becomes gentler and you have to ford the stream. Then turn right towards Col Mercière, at marker 92. At Col Mercière, don't follow the main track down into the Vallon de Mollières, but take the small, unmarked path to the left. Descend and skirt a rocky bar, then climb a little to reach the Tavels lakes. Return along the same path.
