Description
From the sanctuary of Sainte Anne, this pleasant and relaxing 3h30 hike takes in the splendid Testa Mouton lakes.
Arriving by car, drive around the sanctuary (2,035m) as far as possible to the right (north) at the far end of the parking lots. Drive a few metres along a small road closed to traffic.
On the right, a sign indicates "Passo di Bravaria, terme di Valdieri". The white-red signposted path descends, crosses a small ravine and climbs back up to the other side. It then alternates between a short descent and rising flats in a northeasterly direction, until it drops into the valley below Testa Mouton.
It then passes a pretty waterfall and begins the climb up a steep gully. The trail remains well marked, forming regular switchbacks. Shortly afterwards, it reaches a flat area partly occupied by a first, more or less circular lake (2,150m).
At its eastern end, a trail emerges to the left of the GR (signposted "Laghi Gemelli"); climb the ridge, avoiding a few small rocky bars, to arrive directly on the shores of the first twin lake (2,231m).
Follow the left bank to reach the second lake, which forms a figure-of-eight with the first.
The fourth lake (2,250m) is reached by passing over the second one, bending slightly to the left. Then continue to climb south-eastwards along the ridge, then northwards through the boulders to reach the fifth lake (2320m), which is almost dry.
From its banks, you have a magnificent view to the east over three Mouton lakes dominated by Punta Maladecia (2,747m).
