Description
In response to today’s horror vacui, Iker Karrera sets the exploratory force of a vital dance—learning, with no resource but oneself, how to truly know who we are.
What happens when we find ourselves completely alone in a room, cut off from the constant stream of stimuli and distractions that usually shield us from our fear of emptiness? Could such voluntary isolation be a remedy for the increasingly widespread condition of anhedonia—the sudden inability to take pleasure in what once brought joy?
To these existential questions, choreographer Iker Karrera and his five performers respond with a highly physical creation that intimately probes the workings of the human soul. Their dance, infused with both contemporary influences and urban movement vocabularies, embodies—through the body itself—the images and sensations of an introspection that is at once unsettling and healing.
In this deeply organic experience, the original score by producer Alex Aller plays a central role. Layers of electronic sound, echoing the turbulence of the outside world, gradually recede, giving way to instrumental solos—saxophone, accordion, percussion—that evoke the journey toward self-discovery, with its moments of doubt as well as wonder.
An invitation to confront oneself in order to better embrace the world and life—an experience that is intense, rich, and profoundly alive.
