Description
When the sisterhood of tightly bonded performers meets a sensitive choreographic language, dance becomes a peaceful—yet remarkably powerful—weapon for a new art of joy.
“This work is not simply an ode to the feminine,” Jann Gallois cautions. Indeed, if the choreographer, weary of witnessing the destruction and disasters imposed upon the world, turns toward “them,” it is to carry a universal breath of life and hope—one that connects all human beings beyond gender, age, or identity.
Her six performers, united in a hypnotic dance, appear in turn as goddesses, witches, and nymphs, embodying an alternative vision where the irresistible strength of gentleness replaces that of violence. Having long embraced the “tomboy” image often projected onto her, Gallois reveals here an essential part of her femininity—consciously or unconsciously set aside until now.
Drawing from both hip-hop movement and contemporary vocabulary, she joyfully affirms the power of a collective that honors each performer’s individuality and stylistic diversity, chosen “for their light.” Set to Patrick de Oliveira’s electro-acoustic score, their untamed sextet unfolds in mesmerizing waves that never break—an eloquent demonstration of the many ways of being together. United, in the hoped-for and long-awaited imminence of a better future.
