Description
Between heritage and creation, the Ballet de l'Opéra de Nice reunites Jean-Christophe Maillot and Ioannis Mandafounis in a program between poetry and modernity.
Presentation
Two choreographers, two generations, two styles - both on pointe. An evening designed as much for ballet aficionados as for those wishing to discover the full richness of ballet.
A major figure in ballet on the Côte d'Azur for over thirty years, Jean-Christophe Maillot, at the helm of Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, has shaped one of Europe's most singular companies. Including his work in the repertoire of the Ballet de l'Opéra de Nice is a natural step. Created in 2000 for the choreographer's fortieth birthday, Opus 40 is an ode to youth.
The work follows "the thread of pleasure", from the sensations of childhood to the first stirrings, then to the fullness of love. Music by Meredith Monk accompanies this intimate journey.
Another look with Ioannis Mandafounis, Artistic Director of the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company, heir to the tradition of William Forsythe.
Invited to create a world premiere for Nice, he opens the evening to new horizons.
