Description
Magic, enchantment and dance: "Sleeping Beauty" enchants young and old in a spectacular ballet set to Tchaikovsky's music.
Presentation
Carried by Tchaikovsky's sumptuous score, Sleeping Beauty is a magnificent family show where the magic of the fairy tale and the timeless beauty of dance meet.
If the great fairy tales have survived the centuries, it's because they're much more than just stories: they offer ways of thinking about the world. Here, the fate of the princess evokes a cycle of nature: the luminous energy of summer, the uncertain autumn heralded by Carabosse's curse, then the winter of a long sleep. As with the return of spring, the arrival of the prince, cleaving through the brambles, will bring life back to the kingdom.
This allegory also recounts the passage to adulthood, that suspended moment between childhood and maturity. With this production, Pontus Lidberg aims to revive this reading, present in the oldest versions of the tale, while embracing the richest that ballet has to offer: dance theater and classical entertainment, magnified by one of the most emblematic scores in the art of choreography.
