La serpent verte

Folk tradition is full of strange songs. They tell the story of a young girl stabbed by her father, of the bloody and carefully wrapped heart of a soldier fleeing his regiment, of wolves led to the river, of a blind man content with his lot, or even a woman who poisons her husband by dipping a green snake into a pint of red wine… Straddling the line between legend and news story, the fantastic and the terrifying, dreams and nightmares, these songs possess great literary and musical beauty. This repertoire is interwoven with more contemporary or rhythmic melodies, yet always imbued with mystery. Accompanied by the hurdy-gurdy, a bowed string instrument whose origins date back to the Middle Ages, Pascale Paolini-Modercin and Guillaume Tennevin reinterpret folk songs and contemporary music through a melancholic and fantastical performance that blends music, singing, and staging. A show inspired by the literary world of George Sand, particularly her novel *Les Maîtres sonneurs*.
