Synopsis
With The Merry Widow, Franz Lehár created one of the most emblematic operettas in the repertoire, irresistibly blending elegance, wit and sensuality. Intrigues of love and power intertwine around a coveted rich widow.
About the show
Beneath its light airs, Franz Lehár's work reveals a subtle audacity, carried by music as intoxicating as it is melancholy. Already staged at the Opéra de Nice in 2021, this production directed by Benoît Bénichou returns today in a completely revisited version. The chic Parisian embassy becomes a half-collapsed place, where the pomp of celebration rubs shoulders with the traces of a world in ruins. The entire Opera House becomes the stage for the action: from the forecourt to the auditorium, from the corridors to the staircases, the audience is invited to cross the boundaries of the stage. Red-carpet arrivals, musical interventions in the lobby, unexpected appearances... all combine to make this Merry Widow a lively, festive and resolutely contemporary experience, where the show goes beyond the stage to better celebrate the art of entertainment.
