Description
Pierre and Claire Lannes are questioned in turn about the murder of Marie-Thérèse Bousquet, Pierre's deaf and mute cousin, who was also their housekeeper and cook.
Claire immediately admits killing her, then cutting up and scattering her body, without ever being able to explain why. Pierre, for his part, claims not to have seen anything. Under Duras's pen, the plot is transformed into a long interrogation. Answers elude, silences thicken and mystery unfolds. Why did Claire Lannes kill?
Three great actors, a crime and a mystery to unravel. Émilie Charriot brings to the stage this major repertory play, inspired by a dark crime that took place in Essonne in the late 1940s. In a deliberately uncluttered set, focused on the power of Durassian language, Dominique Reymond, Nicolas Bouchaud and Laurent Poitrenaux strikingly explore the shadows of an ordinary couple and the strangeness of an incomprehensible gesture.
With this play, which Duras specified should be performed "without sets or costumes", Émilie Charriot continues her theatrical research based on the power of words alone. The actors flesh out this troubling enigma, leaving the audience to conjure up their own images.
