Description
From September 2026, the City of Cannes, the Cannes Film Festival and Cannes Cinéma will join forces to celebrate the 80th edition of the world’s leading film festival.
To kick off this exceptional series of lectures, we are delighted to welcome Thierry Frémaux, the Festival’s General Delegate.
Behind the creation of the International Film Festival lay a universal idea: to bring together the world of cinema in France, and in Cannes, in a ‘festival of freedom’ which, from the very outset, defined what would become the event’s hallmark. Following the cancellation of the 1939 edition, the revival in 1946 marked the finest possible start to an event that would quickly establish itself as the world’s greatest celebration of cinema.
