Le Verroux: An Untouched, Wild Paradise. Le Verroux is located in the municipality of Sainte-Agnès at an elevation of 930 meters. It is currently a small-scale farm that practices nature-friendly agriculture (permaculture). It is half an hour from the Mediterranean coast.
There is also a small vegetable garden and a field where Helichrysum—a flower and medicinal plant used for distilling essential oil—is grown. The property is home to a herd of Breton Black-and-White cows, broodmares, and horses used for long-distance trail rides.
It is a remote location with no municipal water or electricity from EDF. Water is supplied by springs in the winter, rainwater, and a water truck for the rest of the needs. There is an 8,000-liter underground tank. Electricity is generated by 220-volt solar panels. There is enough power for lighting, charging phones and computers, and small appliances up to 300 watts. The house can accommodate 8 people. There is a bedroom upstairs with two 140 x 200 beds; one of them can also be converted into two single beds. There is a small bedroom with three single beds, and in the living room, there is a single bed built into the sofa. It is possible to set up tents in the garden. There is a bathroom with a shower, sink, and hot water; the toilet is located outside the house and is a dry toilet (at the far end of the garden)—easy to use and odor-free.
Since there is no running water, the water is not potable, so you’ll need to bring your own water, and it goes without saying that you should use water sparingly (20 liters per day is more than enough per person). Cell phone reception is very poor; you’ll need to go up to the Col de Verroux (a 5-minute walk) to get good reception.
You can host events there, such as birthdays, baptisms, rustic weddings, barbecues… Otherwise, it’s simple, easy, and peaceful—surrounded by nature and with all the animals and birds for company—it’s paradise.
