Description
To mark the tenth anniversary of this tragedy, the City of Nice wanted to organize an event dedicated to remembrance, sharing, and reflection.
Designed out of respect for the victims and their families, this exhibition invites visitors to understand how a community copes with adversity, how it comes together, rebuilds itself, and passes on its history.
On July 14, 2016, as thousands of people gathered on the Promenade des Anglais to celebrate Bastille Day, Nice was struck by one of the deadliest attacks in modern French history. Eighty-six people lost their lives, and several hundred others were injured.
Through archival materials, photographs, mementos, testimonies, symbolic works of art, and previously unpublished documents, the exhibition traces the many dimensions of this collective memory: the tribute to the victims, the outpouring of solidarity that emerged from the very first hours, the commitment of emergency services and institutions, the role of community organizations, artistic, civic, and spiritual responses, as well as the gradual construction of a shared memory at the local, national, and international levels.
Because remembering is a collective responsibility, “Nice: Ten Years of Memory and Resilience” affirms with sobriety and dignity that, beyond the tragedy, passing on this memory remains one of the most essential forms of resilience.
