Description
Between love, jealousy and madness, Handel's "Orlando" is a vertigo of emotions, carried by Jean-Christophe Spinosi's captivating staging.
Synopsis
Composed in 1733 when Handel was at the height of his fame, Orlando is a singular opera: few characters - but all prodigiously portrayed - tightly-packed action, and a dizzying exploration of passions. Love, jealousy, delusion and guilt collide, culminating in the famous scene of madness in the second act, in which Handel sends his hero teetering between hallucination and fury, with music that is strikingly modern.
About the show
For Mariame Clément, the challenge is not so much one of transposition as of emotional truth. Between chivalry and subjective perception, her staging moves between myth and contemporaneity, revealing a hero torn between love and duty, a true modern-day Don Quixote, torn between reason and passion. With a first-rate vocal team, Jean-Christophe Spinosi will plunge us into this unique musical and human universe like no other.
