Description
Set in a psychiatric hospital, "Pagliacci" reveals the violence of human passions in a drama as intense as it is moving.
Presentation
Synopsis
In 1892, Ruggero Leoncavallo composed Pagliacci, one of the manifestos of the genre that was to dominate opera: verismo. A short, tense work in which theater becomes the cruel mirror of human passions, Pagliacci is also a reflection on jealousy, marital violence, domination and feminicide.
About the show
This is what Jean-Philippe Clarac and Olivier Deloeuil (Le Lab) explore in their staging: moving from the circus environment to that of the psychiatric hospital, they plunge us into the psychology of the characters with a new acuity. Play and truth, mask and unveiling, actor and character all merge dangerously in this therapeutic work... Yves Abel, conducting the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice, breathes all the tension and heat into this searing drama.
