Porquerolles: A Nature Walk to Explore the Coastal Landscapes

Discover Porquerolles as you’ve never seen it before. In the heart of Port-Cros National Park, this nature walk takes you on a journey to discover Porquerolles’ iconic landscapes, from the shoreline to the pine forest and exceptional panoramic views of the Mediterranean. Accompanied by a nature guide, you’ll walk from the island’s harbor to Courtade Beach before reaching Fort Sainte-Agathe. Along the way, each stop will offer an opportunity to better understand the natural processes of the Mediterranean coastline. The mats of Posidonia seagrass, the intertidal zone, seashells, pebbles, and coastal vegetation all reveal the essential role nature plays in protecting beaches, preserving biodiversity, and combating erosion. From Fort Sainte-Agathe, an exceptional panoramic view will allow you to observe the entire coastline and better understand the close connections between the Posidonia seagrass beds—located beneath the sea’s surface—and the leaves that naturally wash up on the beaches. Through observations, discussions, and landscape interpretation, this walk invites you to discover Porquerolles in a new light and to gain a fresh perspective on its exceptional natural heritage. You’ll discover The iconic landscapes of Porquerolles. La Courtade Beach and Fort Sainte-Agathe. The role of Posidonia seagrass beds in protecting the coastline. The main natural elements that make up a Mediterranean beach. The natural processes that shape and preserve coastal landscapes. Practical Information Meeting point: in front of the Porquerolles Tourist Office. Route: approximately 3 km with a 100-meter elevation gain. Duration: approximately 2 to 2.5 hours. What to bring: closed-toe shoes suitable for walking, water, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. The route may be adjusted depending on weather conditions or any restrictions in effect. This free event is available by reservation as part of the “Our Living Beaches – Understanding Nature to Better Preserve It” program, led by the Port-Cros National Park as part of the European AMMIRARE project. Coordinated locally by the CIETM, this program offers free activities throughout the summer to help participants better understand the natural functioning of Mediterranean beaches and the challenges of preserving them.
