Explore Port-Cros in a whole new way on a guided nature walk. From trails to beaches and unspoiled landscapes, discover the secrets of the Mediterranean coastline, the role of Posidonia seagrass beds, and the treasures of Port-Cros National Park.
Set out to discover Port-Cros and let yourself be surprised by the secrets of its coastline. Led by a science guide, this nature walk invites you to explore one of the most iconic sites in the Port-Cros National Park, between the harbor and the South Beach. As you walk along the trail, you’ll learn to see the landscape in a new light. The Mediterranean vegetation, rock formations, Posidonia seagrass beds, and traces left by the sea all provide clues to understanding how beaches function naturally and the close connections between terrestrial and marine environments. This outing offers an opportunity to discover the essential role of Posidonia seagrass beds in preserving the coastline, to learn more about marine and coastal biodiversity, and to better understand the natural mechanisms that help protect beaches from erosion and climate change. Punctuated by discussions, observations, and explanations accessible to everyone, this walk offers a new way to discover Port-Cros, taking the time to observe, understand, and view this exceptional natural heritage from a different perspective. You’ll discover The iconic landscapes of Port-Cros; How Mediterranean beaches function naturally; The role of Posidonia seagrass beds in protecting the coastline; The island’s terrestrial and marine biodiversity; The connections between nature, climate, and coastal conservation. Practical Information Meeting point: the pier at the Port-Cros harbor. Route: from the pier to the South Beach (return on your own). Duration: approximately 2 hours. What to bring: closed-toe shoes suitable for walking, water, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. You may want to bring a picnic lunch to extend your day on the island. The route may be adapted or modified depending on weather conditions or restrictions in effect. This free activity is offered by reservation as part of the “Our Living Beaches – Understanding Nature to Better Preserve It,” coordinated by the CIETM for the Port-Cros National Park, as part of the European AMMIRARE project, co-funded by the Interreg Italy-France Maritime 2021–2027 program.
