A member of the Comédie-Française, Clément Bresson draws on his experiences as a young soccer player at the Reims stadium for this one-man show. The character he creates brings these two cultures together with humor and conviction.
Very early in his childhood, Paul-Émile discovered his great love: soccer. He spent his nights dreaming about it and his days playing it... Through hard work, his dream of turning pro was within reach, but his destiny took a different turn, and it was almost by chance that he ended up in the theater. The beauty of language and poetry captivated him. So did the human connections that unfolded on stage. Yet, buried deep in his soul, his love for the field and the team remained, along with the electrifying feeling of scoring a goal—and the bitter realization that theater would never be more than a substitute for that first love.
Paul-Emile reveals himself at different stages of his life, oscillating between the stage and the stadium. He believes he’s done with soccer, but we quickly realize he hasn’t yet reached his goal.
