Description
By turns teacher, clown, mime and singer, the actor gives it his all. Alone on stage... or almost.
The ghost of Hamlet's father and the gravediggers, Gertrude, Guildenstern, Ophelia and her family are all summoned to the stage, so that it can be populated and recomposed at will. An upright piano, a tea service, velvet curtains or a skull under a cloth, and the magic happens. Gilles Privat plays almost all of Hamlet himself!
A zany one-man show that deliberately oscillates between tragedy and comedy, Presque Hamlet draws on Shakespeare's mythical play to offer a rereading that's as erudite as it is whimsical. With the complicity of director Dan Jemmett, Gilles Privat takes the audience on a hilarious lecture-show, a true tribute to theater and burlesque art.
This now cult show celebrates the art of acting and the joy of revisiting great texts. Somewhere between professorial seriousness and unbridled fantasy, Presque Hamlet is a vertiginous mise en abyme of theater: a moment of pure scenic invention, funny, surprising and profoundly jubilant.
With Gilles Privat.
