Description
Resurrection is about a young man from a good family who leads a life of pleasure in a big city, only to find himself a juror at the trial of a woman accused of murder. He recognizes his childhood sweetheart, formerly in the service of his family.
He abused her and got her pregnant before abandoning her. She became a prostitute. Eager to make amends, he tries to clear her name, but she refuses his help, forcing him to face the consequences of his actions. A theater of conscience, between the quest for redemption and the possibility of forgiveness.
Less emblematic than some of Leo Tolstoy's other works, Leïla Slimani's Resurrection strikes a striking chord with our times. Alongside director Simon Delétang, the author takes up this story to offer a committed, contemporary adaptation. Through the figure of Nekhlioudov, an idealist torn between the enjoyment of his privileges and his desire for justice, the show questions the violence of class relations.
