Description
The year is 1645, on the island of Crete, a strategic location for the Venetian maritime empire.
As the fifth Turco-Venetian war looms, Pantalone de' Bisognosi, a merchant living on the island, organizes the marriage of his daughter Ortensia to the wealthy Don Alonso. But in Venice, Don Alonso crosses paths with Scaramuccia, a Neapolitan in a bad way, and his faithful servant Arlecchino. A quarrel breaks out, and Don Alonso is defeated and dies. Scaramuccia flees, pursued by Flavia, in love with Don Alonso and eager for revenge.
After the success of Arlecchino muto per spavento, the Italian troupe Stivalaccio Teatro now explores the world of Scaramuccia, an emblematic Commedia dell'arte character. Quiproquos, duels, songs and improvisations give each scene an irresistible energy, reminding us of the timeless and universal power of this art: a theater that speaks to all, where the body is at stake, where laughter is a partner, a theater rich in humanity and emotion. In the Mediterranean, where millennia of history and language intertwine, a tale of love, jealousy and war unfolds. An extraordinary journey, a vibrant tribute to Commedia dell'arte, made of ancient masks, ocean-going ships and the solid walls of the island of Crete.
