The story of a generation of Ukrainian writers and cultural figures from the 1920s and 1930s, wiped out by the Stalinist regime.

The story takes place at the “Slovo” house in Kharkiv, a place where creative freedom gradually gives way to fear and a struggle for survival. The performance draws on archival materials, books, and newspaper clippings. The audience will discover the true story of the lives, deaths, and survival of four members of the Ukrainian artistic intelligentsia. Each of them offers a different perspective on Ukraine and its cultural future, and each develops their own strategy for survival in difficult times. How did they love and form friendships? What did they believe in? How did they resist and remain silent? And what is to be done when freedom becomes a prisoner of passivity?
