Description
How does the voice persist amid the dizziness? Between silence and noise, I hear a piercing sound, a high-pitched whistle, an uncomfortable ringing in my ears. That is the sound of dizziness.
A sense of vertigo induced by the ceaseless and exponential movement of the flows that shape the future of our societies. Flows of goods, people, and information. These flows—encouraged by some and endured by others—create a background noise, an uninterrupted, ceaseless, dizzying movement. For this first choreographic work, I have chosen to work with this sensation of vertigo and to give it a voice. I respond to the demand for silence by finding my voice amid the turbulence. The body and the voice join forces to serve a musical and choreographic composition. The body’s effervescence attempts to express, from a place of discomfort, what remains alive. On stage, a character with cyberpunk features works on their breathing and endurance, moving through a circular space without boundaries or end. They attempt to reestablish their bearings within the ceaseless flow that sweeps through them. The breathing exercise is used to transform the act of pushing beyond one’s limits into a “musical act” in and of itself. Silence is broken by the desire to strengthen the vocal act. The physicality of the body is voiced as an uprising.
