"Soy Cuba" Film Concert—FiMé

SOY CUBA – MIKHAIL KALATOZOV – 1964 – USSR / CUBA – B&W – 75 MIN Soy Cuba is a film about the dawn of the revolution, depicting the Cuban people’s slow journey from humiliation to pride through four stories, each centered on a different character. This work, which is more aesthetic than political, was unfortunately overlooked from the moment of its premiere in 1964. Banned in the United States during the Cold War, *Soy Cuba* finally emerged from obscurity in 1993 when Scorsese and Coppola discovered it and, dazzled by the beauty of the imagery and the fervor of its tone, decided to facilitate its distribution in the United States. THE SZ DUO For over 20 years, the SZ duo—which for years delivered intense concerts drawing on post-rock, indie-pop, and electronica alike—has gradually specialized in film-concert performances, eventually founding the Le Tympan dans l’oeil festival in Grenoble. Moving between contemplative atmospheres and explosive tension, the Litzler brothers offer a complex and varied musical score for the film *Soy Cuba*—at times acoustic, electric, or electronic—that admirably accompanies these struggles of astonishing relevance today.
