*A Season in Hell* by Arthur Rimbaud, a show for all ages that explores poetry through an intense and musical monologue.

For years now, I’ve taken great pleasure in reading Arthur Rimbaud’s *A Season in Hell* to small groups of people curious about poetry. This reading experience, which I reinvent each time, and the feedback from listeners delighted to discover or rediscover this powerful, intense, and mysterious work, tell me that it’s time for me to expand the audience and offer them *A Season in Hell* on a stage where the staging, the acting, the music, and the lighting will shed new light on it. The text was not written for the theater, but aren’t we dealing here with a relentless monologue recounting the eight rounds of a “spiritual battle as brutal as a physical one”? I wanted to further embody the violence of this inner struggle by bringing in a sparring partner: a musician, Alex Grillo, who, by returning the blows “with instinctive rhythms,” would bring forth “a poetic language accessible, sooner or later, to all the senses.” Paul Laurent.
