7 good reasons to visit the Vésubie and Valdeblore valleys this summer

Just an hour from Nice, the Vésubie and Valdeblore valleys offer a range of sporting, fun, contemplative and relaxing experiences in the heart of the Mercantour. Plenty to get your adrenaline pumping! If you’re a fan of ‘Slow Life’ holidays, here are 7 great reasons to spend your summer in the mountains!

1. Berthemont-les-Bains Thermal Spa

Treat yourself to a moment of relaxation

In the highlands of the Côte d’Azur, the pretty hamlet of Berthemont-les-Bains offers an idyllic setting surrounded by nature, perfect for recharging your batteries.

Renowned for its sulphurous waters, Berthemont’s springs were already highly celebrated in Roman times.

Asthe only spa resort in the Alpes-Maritimes, this historic site today embodies the relaxed lifestyle of the Côte d’Azur.

The perfect destination for nature lovers, this enchanting getaway will allow you to relax in water naturally heated to 29 degrees, sourced from the crystalline rocks of the Mercantour.

Thermal pool, hammam, sauna, panoramic terrace with jacuzzi and outdoor solarium…

The benefits of thermal water await you in all its forms for a moment of pure well-being!

2. Enjoy a host of fun activities in Saint-Martin-Vésubie

Nicknamed ‘Little Swiss Nice’ due to its cool climate and beautiful natural landscapes, Saint-Martin-Vésubie is a little corner of paradise in the heart of the upper Vésubie valley.

This picturesque village, which still bears traces of its medieval origins, invites you to discover the charm of the Haut Pays Niçois through its exceptional natural sites and its cultural and architectural heritage. This green gem also offers a wealth of fun mountain activities to enjoy with family or friends.

Starting with the Vesùbia Mountain Park. Unique in Europe, this sports complex is the ideal spot if you’re looking for indoor activities.

Whether you’re pushing yourself to the limit with rock climbing, venturing into the canyoning area, having fun in the swimming pool, or relaxing in the sauna or hammam, the Vesùbia Mountain Park promises a real adventure!

3. Get away from it all at the Pure Montagne Resort & Spa

The getaway continues not far from there, at the Pure Montagne Resort & Spa.

If you’re looking for an unforgettable break in the mountains, this unspoilt and intimate setting offers an exceptional backdrop. The refined design of the suites is a true ode to serenity.

As for the spacious terraces, they offer views across the sweeping landscape of the Vésubie Valley. Food and wine pairings also invite you on a truly indulgent culinary journey at the L’Air du Temps restaurant.

After a lovely day in the great outdoors, the cosy atmosphere reaches its peak as you step into the Nordic area, where the spa, sauna and hammam await you. A deeply relaxing sensory experience that invites you to let go and unwind in this authentic setting.

4. Discover the wolves at Parc Alpha

Watching the wolves at Parc Alpha means immersing yourself in the heart of the unique flora and fauna that the Mercantour has to offer.

The park, which is getting a makeover this year, was created to help you discover a fascinating animal in the most beautiful of settings. Chamois and ibex also make an appearance here, and the animals from the small educational farm are making their big comeback this summer. The new sheepdog show offers the chance to learn more about these herd guardians.

The idyllic setting of the fully renovated ‘Vacherie de la Forge’, along with the play areas, allows you to make the most of this relaxing family day out. To get up close and personal with the pack, the VIP experience offers a rare encounter with this legendary animal and the chance to chat with the keepers, who will share the fascinating story of the relationship between humans and wolves.

5. Staying in unusual places at the Boréon

If you’re looking for accommodation near Alpha Park, why not spend a night in one of the four holiday cottages set in the heart of the countryside? If you’re after a unique experience, you’ll need to climb up to one of the treehouses, perched 5 metres above the ground amidst the Scots pines!

With your head in the clouds, you can take in the view of the forest and gaze at the stars from the spa on the elevated terrace.

Overlooking Lake Boréon, La Miellerie holiday cottage promises a mountain getaway in a charming chalet, whilst the restaurant L’Ô à la Bouche will delight you with its comforting dishes and views over the peaks of the Mercantour.

A must-visit is the climbing tower – a unique structure in the department – where you can experience the joys of this sport accompanied by a high-mountain guide!

6. Experience the thrill of a lifetime at La Colmiane

If you dream of flying, La Colmiane is the place to experience that real thrill! France’s longest zip line will take you across the stunning landscapes of the Vésubie Valley and Valdeblore at over 120km/h. This dizzying flight over the mountain peaks and the region’s most beautiful lakes can be enjoyed solo or as a pair – why not take your children along if you’d like to share this breathtaking experience!

Young and old alike will also love trying out the summer toboggan run at La Colmiane. Thrills and laughter are guaranteed on its 22 bends! In the shade of the larch trees, the 18-hole mini-golf course is ideal for enjoying a more peaceful moment with the family, as is the Bolline swimming pool, where you can cool off this summer!

As for the more adventurous, they’ll no doubt prefer the Via Ferrata. A cross between climbing and hiking, the experience is alpine, wild and, above all, high up in the air! In the heart of the Vésubie Gorges, the Via Ferrata in the Lantosque Canyons is making a grand comeback this summer. You’re sure to love it!

7. Discover stunning scenery whilst out walking

Le Boréon is the starting point for numerous walks in the Mercantour National Park. Take the Adus circuit, for example: an easy walk leading to a magnificent lake. Set in the heart of a forest, this circular walk is very popular in summer, as you can go for a swim in the lake! Its gentle gradient makes it accessible to the whole family. As for the Trécolpas circuit, its forest trail, punctuated by superb views over the ridges bordering the upper Boréon, is one of the most beautiful hikes in the Mercantour.

The succession of small valleys, culminating in the peaceful Lake Trécolpas, is a must-see on the way to the sanctuary of the Madone de Fenestre.

Finally, the Prals Lakes circuit takes you into the heart of the Mercantour, starting from the Madone de Fenestre. In the height of summer, the ascent up the Prals valley is a route of great beauty that will take you through flower-filled mountain pastures and past rushing torrents. These striking contrasts will allow you to fully appreciate the richness of your hike as you discover, along the way, a fabulous panorama of the upper Vésubie.
