6 things to do in Nice!

Here you are in the sun for a long family weekend in Nice. What can you do to please all your little family: the curious, the gourmets, the artists and the sports enthusiasts? Here are six ideas for discovering Nice with your children in a fun and friendly way!

1. Attend the immersive show LUMINISCENCE at Notre-Dame

For a magical family weekend in Nice, don’t miss the immersive show LUMINISCENCE – L’Odyssée Céleste in the Basilica of Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption. This sound and light show combines 360° video mapping, live music, choir and organ to transform the interior of the basilica into a veritable theatre of light. Children and adults alike are captivated by the projections, which make the basilica ‘speak’ and tell the story of Nice in a poetic and accessible way.

It’s an excellent idea for an evening out on a family weekend in Nice: after a day at the beach or in Old Nice, you can end the day in a magical atmosphere, comfortably seated in the nave, your eyes raised to the illuminated vaults. A moment out of time, both cultural and spectacular, that the whole family will remember.

3. STROLL ALONG THE PROMENADE DES ANGLAIS

Then head for the colourful streets of Old Nice and the famous Colline du Château.

This is the most famous promenade in France: the Champs-Elysées facing the sea, with 8 kilometres of promenade ideal for family outings on foot, bike, scooter or rollerblades. Your children will be sure to stop off at the Carrousel in the Jardin Albert 1er. Then head for Vieux-Nice and its Cours Saleya, where you can enjoy a stroll and a delicious ice cream. Finish your stroll with a climb to the Colline du Château. This park is a real paradise for families, with lots of slides and games for children, a climbing structure and plenty of opportunities for ball games and rollerblading.

4. TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE AT THE NATIONAL SPORTS MUSEUM

Discover with your children a unique place in France dedicated to Sport!

Adjacent to the Allianz Riviera Stadium, the Musée National du Sport is a playful, sporting gem that’s ideal for family outings in Nice. An XXL exhibition of French sporting treasures. From Zidane’s jersey from the 1998 World Cup final to David Douillet’s kimono, Marie-José Pérec’s spikes and Laure Manaudou’s wetsuit from Athens 2004. Not forgetting the temporary exhibitions, as well as sports games for young and old alike. A jewel at a unique price: free for under-18s and €8 for adults. The museum also offers educational tours and workshops for children.

5. TRY THE “NISSARDE” CUISINE!

Treat your taste buds as a family to a cuisine bursting with sunshine!

Pissaladière, the famous real Nicoise salad, stuffing, chard pie, daube, pistou, courgette flower fritters, stuffed cabbage, pan-bagnat, socca, panisses and more. Nissette cuisine is a blend of Italian and Provençal flavours. In fact, Nice’s culinary heritage is working towards its inclusion on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. For families, Nice is an open-air restaurant where you can try as many local specialities as possible. See the list of restaurants with the “Cuisine Nissarde” label.

6. VISIT THE MUSÉE NATIONAL MARC CHAGALL

Make the most of a family outing to discover the world of Marc Chagall!

Built by a former collaborator of Le Corbusier, the Musée national Chagall is a must-see museum in Nice. It consists of a “house” and, above all, a magnificent garden right in the heart of the Côte d’Azur capital. This museum, designed by Marc Chagall, brings together his most important work on the Bible, comprising over 400 paintings.
