With my Côte d’Azur Museums Guide in hand, we stroll along the seafront and discover a new aspect of the region at every turn. The Villa Kérylos in Beaulieu-sur-Mer transports us into the refined world of ancient Greek palaces.

Right next door, head to the Villa and Gardens of Ephrussi de Rothschild in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, which offers an elegant interlude amidst Belle Époque architecture and breathtaking gardens.

Further west, in Cagnes-sur-Mer, the Renoir Museum and the Grimaldi Castle Museum welcome you. In Villeneuve-Loubet, the Escoffier Museum of Culinary Art pays tribute to the ‘king of chefs’ in his birthplace.

Continuing on towards Antibes, discover the Postcard Museum or Posidonia – Espace Mer et Littoral, which offers a fascinating insight into the Mediterranean and its underwater treasures.

Further up the valleys, the museums tell the story of the mountains. In Tende, the Musée Départemental des Merveilles displays one of the most significant collections of rock engravings in Europe. Continuing on towards Grasse, a town of art and history world-renowned for its expertise in perfumery, the exploration takes on the feel of a sensory journey. In the heart of the town, the International Perfume Museum tells the story of a passion for scents and local traditions, unique in the world. Right next door, the Fragonard Museum of Provençal Costume rounds off the outing, revealing the elegance and richness of period clothing, not to mention the Fragonard Perfume Museum and the Museum of Art and History of Provence, dedicated to regional archaeology and folk arts and traditions.
